“Essay” is a popular way to refer to South Africa. It also relates to assemblage, or the combining of components to add up to a sum greater than its parts. That makes sense, as it’s not just Chenin Blanc (72%). It’s rounded out by blending Rhone Valley varietals, Roussanne (17%) and Viognier (11%), giving the wine added aromatic complexity. The aromas are of pineapple, melons and pears. It’s round, yet lively on the palate, and can be enjoyed on its own or paired with creamy Pasta Primavera or fish tacos.
