We’re so excited by the arrival of our very first Spanish imports from Vega Clara. Clara Concejo farms 8 hectares along Ribera del Duero’s famous Golden Mile. The Diez Almendros is 75% Tempranillo and “25% others,” or more accurately, “A very fine, fruity special variety which is our best secret.” Whatever it is, it’s delicious.
An explosion of blackberry and plum fruit, a nice peppery note, and just a touch of vanilla oak, not too much. Nicely concentrated, with a ripe, round tannic structure, and surprising length. This is already very enjoyable to drink now and will continue to impress over the next several years. Get fancy and pour it with wine-braised short ribs.
