Domaine Parent needs no introduction. It is one of the more famous and recognizable domaines in Pommard, and dates back to the late 1700’s. Their reputation for crafting exceptional examples of Pommard put them on a short list of Burgundy’s finest producers. The 2016 growing season was a challenge. Frost and mildew were the issues, reducing production by 10-80%, depending where your vineyard was. The fruit harvested at Parent came in impeccably clean and ripe. Due to the reduction of yields, Anne Parent did not make a village Pommard in 2016. Parent’s Bourgogne Sélection Pomone is no ordinary Bourgogne. It is comprised of 70% village Pommard from 70+ year old vines on the good side of the road. Another 20% of the blend is 1er Cru Ladoix, and the last 10% from Pommard 1er Cru Noizons. The wine is Pommard scented, with brambly deep red and black cherry notes mixed with earth and spice. The palate is sturdy - muscular, with a solid core of fruit, and it finishes elegant and expressive.
