Style:
Three varietals sourced from three different, unique vineyards. The base is Carignane (57%) from a vineyard planted 80 years ago outside of Ukiah in Mendocino Co. Then comes old-vine Zinfandel (35%) from a vineyard located in the foothills east of the town of Hopland, also in Mendocino. The rest is Petite Sirah from Sonoma Co.’s Knights Valley AVA. Each of the components were separately fermented and aged in 45% new French and American oak barrels before bottling.
Story:
In 2009, husband and wife team Matt Duffy and Sarah Vaughn purchased their first ton of grapes. Matt Duffy learned his winemaking craft at Siduri and then on the job at a custom crush facility. Right off the bat, Vaughn Duffy was recognized for their deftly made wines and impeccable grape sourcing. The Old River Red is an homage to old field blends. Lively spice notes couple with juicy, rich berry fruit.
Pairings:
This spicy and juicy red will complement dishes that emphasize spices like cumin, smoked paprika or cinnamon. Culinary examples include lamb Vindaloo, Moroccan Bastilla or a plato of Carnitas.
