2022 Terre Nere Etna Bianco Calderara Sottana

If you've heard the buzz about the wines from Sicily's Mount Etna, and you want to try one of the best, look no further than Terre Nere. Made from Carricante grapes, grown on the northern slopes of the Etna volcano, Terre Nere's Calderara Sottana bottling is produced from 100% Carricante grapes and is fermented and aged in 10-hectoliter barrels. The winery calls it "an intense, long, very long, majestic wine."

It's silky upon entry yet quickly builds with mineral tension. A savory, sweet interplay of citrus and spice offsets ripe nectarines and apricots. The 2022 leaves the palate reeling with youthfull tension and watering for more as it finishes with outstanding freshness. This may not be the longest-lived Calderara Sottana Bianco, yet there's no rush. It's a total charmer."
