In the very southeast part of the Rhône Valley is the commune of Saint-Gilles, where Mathieu Chatain and Diane de Puymorin purchased Domaine de la Petite Cassagne in 1998. They changed the name to Château d’Or et de Gueules (Occitan dialect for “Gold and Red) and haven’t looked back.
One gets a good whiff of dark, smoky, spicy purple fruit on the bouquet, with the black tea, tobacco leaf and forest floor adding to the complexity. We've said it before, and stand behind it, one does not easily come across this much complexity in a wine for such a price.
60% Syrah, 30% old vine Carignan and 10% Grenache.
