Winemaker Stephane Pichat is known for crafting expressive, fruit-driven wines from Cote-Rotie and Condrieu. He also makes Syrah and Viognier that are more accessible in their youth under the Proxima label. This Syrah bursts with red and black fruit aromas, joined by spice and floral hints. The fruit-driven palate is medium-full, with layers of fruit propped up by lively acidity and light tannins.
Pichat represents the third generation toiling in the family’s 10 acres of prime vineyard land in and around Cote-Rotie. The fruit for his Syrah Proxima comes from some of his Cote-Rotie holdings, including young vine Champons, Plomb, and Les Grandes Places. He also sources from the surrounding northern Rhone appellation of Collines Rhodaniennes.
Rich, flavorful dishes work very well with it, especially grilled or smoked meats. Try it with baby back ribs or a slow-cooked beef brisket.
