If one were to point to a traditionalist winemaking style in Piedmont, Aurelio Settimo would be included on that list. 100% Nebbiolo aged in concrete tank for 30-36 months before bottling. No use of wood at all. Garnet colored with aromas of violet, red fruit and spices.
Tiziana Settimo took over from her father Aurelio in 2007, and was joined by her son Davide Boassa, about ten years ago. Together they make this exceptional “baby Barolo” from younger vine grapes that could in fact be labeled Barolo if they wanted to. Fortunately, they make this ready to drink red every vintage, though only in small quantities. It’s a great way to introduce yourself to this fabled Barolo producer.
