Contra Soarda is a family-run winery located about an hour and half northwest of Venice. It is a magical spot where the grape vines grow on volcanic soil and the family farms in a sustainable fashion. Marzemino is a red grape, similar to Lagrein and Teroldego, that produces black cherry scented wine with notes of mountain herbs. It’s tangy and full of bright acidity that dazzles the palate. Fermented in tank and then aged for 12 months in used barrels, this red is a perfect partner for tomato-centric, rustic stews.
From the Winery:
Gaggion is an authentic expression of Marzemino Nero, grown on volcanic soils enriched by the presence of alluvial pebbles. The grapes, the result of a careful selection, ferment spontaneously in steel, preserving the purity of the varietal, and then continue with an aging in second/third passage French oak barriques for 12 months.
On the nose, the wine releases intense scents of wild berries, black pepper and mountain herbs. On the palate it is tart and tasty, with the freshness of redcurrants, both fresh and dried, and a lively acidity that enhances its dynamism. Rich and concentrated aromas of black cherries, with a finish of notes of undergrowth and black tea that give the wine such a marked and enveloping character as to make it irresistible.
