The red grape of Sancerre is Pinot Noir, and when grown in the village’s famous Kimmeridgian limestone soils, the results can be revelatory. This Sancerre rouge has aromas of stony mineral, herbs and earth. The red fruit complements these complexities giving the wine depth and length. The red wines of Sancerre account for less than 20% of the region’s production. It is a unique expression of French Pinot Noir.
Daniel Reverdy took over the family domaine in 1979. At the time he only had about 5 acres of vines. Over the years, he had expanded his vineyard plantings, selling the juice to a local negociant. In the early 2000’s his son, Cyrille, came home from studying winemaking in Beaune to help him produce their first domaine bottling. Shortly thereafter, their tiny production wines were earning awards and medals.
An ideal match for meaty fish like salmon or Ahi tuna, especially if grilled, or with roasted poultry.
