"Metisse is the name of the limited production wine made by the talented young French winemaking consultant, Philippe Melka (also the winemaker for Seavey and J. Lail Vineyards). The 1997 Proprietary Red (450 cases made from 53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot, and 20% Cabernet Franc) is a blend that is similar to that of the famed Chateau Haut-Brion, but the wine tastes more like a Pomerol. Deep ruby/purple, with an exuberant, exotic nose of espresso beans lathered in melted chocolate, and jammy cherry/cassis. Full-bodied and velvety-textured, this opulent, hedonistic, gorgeously textured wine is already thrilling to drink." - Robert Parker - 1999
