2013 Stephane Magnien Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru Les Faconnieres
Morey-Saint-Denis is a well-known village in Burgundy’s Côte de Nuits. The youthful Stephane Magnien doesn’t have much acreage to work with (approximately 11), but he’s inherited some fancy vineyard sites. The Les Faconnières vineyard lies just north of the village across the road from several Grand Cru sites including Côte de la Roche and Clos Saint-Denis. 2013 was a challenging vintage all over Burgundy, however these days, with the use of modern equipment and winemaking know-how, coupled with strict sorting and grape selection, the finished product is of fine quality. The winemakers’ downside are the limited quantities due to the sacrifice of imperfect fruit. Stephane was very satisfied with the quality of his 2013 wines.
