The 2017 Barolo del Comune di Serralunga d'Alba is a very pretty and alluring Barolo. Savory and floral top notes from the whole clusters lend aromatic intrigue to this beguiling Barolo from Principiano. Beautifully layered and transparent, the 2017 is an absolute winner. I loved it. Our notes: this is fabulous, old-style Barolo. Not a deeply colored wine, but wow, what a bouquet, and what a presence it has on the palate! There's a clear analogy to the wines from Domaine Dujac from the era that Jacques Seysses was making the wines. They were never deep in color but they always had tremendous complexity. That's because neither Pinot Noir -- nor Nebbiolo -- need dark color for the wine to have depth of flavor and complexity. A brilliant bottle of Barolo!
